  1. A substantial proportion (about 50%) of the species distribution is in Brazil, so the Brazilian National Red List assessment is relevant: https://doi.org/10.37002/salve.ficha.13503

    This species is listed as LC in Brazil, because while the population is estimated to be declining, the suspected rate of decline does not approach the thresholds for listing this species as threatened. The national red list assessment would therefore appear to offer support to the BirdLife proposal to downlist from NT to LC.

  2. I agree with Ben Phalan’s suggestion to see the Brazilian assessment, considering that about 50% of the species’ population is in Brazil.
    The species is considered LC in Brazil, and if there is no evidence of population decline at rates close to 30% for the global population, LC also seems suitable for the global Red List.

  4. Preliminary proposal

    Based on available information, our preliminary proposal for the 2023 Red List would be to adopt the proposed classifications outlined in the initial forum discussion.

    There is now a period for further comments until the final deadline on 2 July 2023, after which the recommended categorisations will be put forward to IUCN.

    The final 2023 Red List categories will be published on the BirdLife and IUCN websites in December 2023, following further checking of information relevant to the assessments by both BirdLife and IUCN.

  6. Recommended categorisation to be put forward to IUCN

    The final categorisation for this species has not changed. White-winged Trumpeter is recommended to be listed as Least Concern.
