  1. I agree with the proposed criteria of Critically endangered for the species. trapping is the primarily cause of the loss for the species, where its highly regarded as the cage bird with the trade name “sulingan”, nowadays, eventhough the species are could be found in secondary habitat or traditional plantation, some observation shows the species breeding activities are also threatened by brood parasitism from the cuckoos, thus some countermeasure are needed to address the threats.

  3. Preliminary proposal

Based on available information, our preliminary proposal for the 2022.2 Red List would be to adopt the proposed classifications outlined in the initial forum discussion.

There is now a period for further comments until the final deadline on 24 July 2022, after which the recommended categorisations will be put forward to IUCN. The final 2022.2 Red List categories will be published on the BirdLife and IUCN websites in December 2022, following further checking of information relevant to the assessments by both BirdLife and IUCN.

  4. The following comment was submitted by James Eaton on 11 July 2022 while the discussion Forum was temporarily closed:
“Agree, and makes for grim reading. Such a straight forward bird to record and find in protected areas even just 10-15 years ago, and now gone. Even in trade it’s an extremely rare species now. Urgent action required to protect the remaining populations, hopefully not just involving captive breeding programs but action on the ground and in the field.”
