Barred Eagle-owl (Bubo sumatranus): Revise global status?

  1. This species is not a popular species in local bird market in Sumatra and Kalimantan. However, when I carried out field surveys in Sumatra and Kalimantan, this species sometime found as a pet bird by local people (in mainland Sumatra, Bangka and Kalimantan). So, uplisted to Near Threatened is a make sense.

  2. I strongly agree with uplisting Barred Eagle Owl to Near Threatened. This is evidently among species frequently reported for sale in illegal pet trade in Thailand. For this reason and the loss/fragmentation of forest, its national conservation status has been assessed as Vulnerable by the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (http://chm-thai.onep.go.th/?p=1543) and Near Threatened by BCST Records Committee (https://www.bcst.or.th/report-archives/).
