Currently no evidence of trade in this species has been recorded in the SiTDB. However, an increasing number of Northern Papua endemics are appearing in the domestic songbird trade of Indonesia and an increase in trapping qouta for non-protected Papuan species has occured in recent years.

The final categorisation for this species has not changed. Brass’s Friarbird is recommended to be listed as Least Concern.
