  1. Least Concern seems appropriate. This was also the conclusion of the last Brazilian national assessment, carried out in 2019 (not yet published).
    As Brazil makes up 75% of the species’ EOO (455,500 km² out of 601,000 km²), an extrapolation of the species’ situation in Brazil is justifiable.
    According to the national assessment, in Brazil, the destruction of Araucaria forests by agriculture is the main threat to the species, but there is no evidence that this threat is capable of taking it to the thresholds of risk of extinction in the near future.

  3. I agree that Least Concern seems appropriate. This is a common and widespread bird. It does have an obligate association with a tree species that is listed as globally Critically Endangered, but this is on the basis of a much longer timescale (three generation lengths for Araucaria angustifolia, or over a century; Thomas 2013), and the Araucaria remains abundant and widespread despite great historical losses.

  5. Preliminary proposal

    Based on available information, our preliminary proposal for the 2024 Red List would be to adopt the proposed classifications outlined in the initial forum discussion.

    There is now a period for further comments until the final deadline on 18 February 2024, after which the recommended categorisations will be put forward to IUCN.

    The final 2024 Red List categories will be published on the BirdLife and IUCN websites in December 2024, following further checking of information relevant to the assessments by both BirdLife and IUCN.

  7. Recommended categorisation to be put forward to IUCN

    The final categorisation for this species has not changed. Araucaria Tit-spinetail is recommended to be listed as Least Concern.
