  1. I think this assessment is reasonable and correct given the information available. I would only recommend one change: citing Verdon and Clarke 2022 in the Annex 1 population size justification.

It is also worth flagging in this section that due to large fluctuations in population size depending on environmental conditions (drought versus wet years), field-based estimates of population size can become out-dated within <5 years, adding to uncertainty.

Verdon, S.J. and Clarke, M.F., 2022. Can fire‐age mosaics really deal with conflicting needs of species? A study using population hotspots of multiple threatened birds. Journal of Applied Ecology, 59(8), pp.2128-2141.

  2. I suggest that ‘Flinders Range’ be deleted from the map. It is not shown correctly and is of no pertinence to the subject.

We thank all those who have contributed valuable information, all of which has been incorporated into the updated Red List assessment for this species. Based on available information, our preliminary proposal for the 2026 Red List would be to adopt the proposed classification outlined in the initial forum discussion.

The final 2026 Red List categories will be published on the BirdLife and IUCN websites later this year, following further checking of information relevant to the assessments by both BirdLife and IUCN.
