  1. I have no relevant comments as this species is a Vagrant in all Middle East countries.

  2. Trends of the Rustic Bunting in Russia are various in the different regions of the country. In the north-west of European Russia decline in numbers is still continuing (Rymkevich in press; Yakovleva & Sukhov 2017). Negative trend is also recorded in the south of the Russian Far East (Valchuk in press). But in the north-east of European Russia, and in the Aisan part of Russia: West Siberia, Yakutia, Kamchatka decline in numbers is not recorded last years (Amosov & Futoran 2021; Germogenov 2023; Strelnikov pers. comm.; Gerasimov in press). The opinion of the Russian team of experts on this species: we consider it reasonable to downgrade the category from VU to NT.

  4. Preliminary proposal

We thank A. Mischenko for sharing the helpful comment above, the information in which will be incorporated into the updated species factsheet. Based on available information, our preliminary proposal for the 2025 Red List would be to adopt the proposed classification outlined in the initial forum discussion.

There is now a period for further comments until the final deadline on 4 May 2025, after which the recommended categorisations will be put forward to IUCN.

The final 2025 Red List categories will be published on the BirdLife and IUCN websites in October 2025, following further checking of information relevant to the assessments by both BirdLife and IUCN.
