  1. It is possible if this species listed as Least Concern. However, based on my recent observation in Banyuasin Peninsula in 2022 and 2023, the number not in good number (just c. 50 individuals in total).
    In South Sumatra, Indonesia, this species occur in part of Banyuasin Peninsula or Berbak Sembilang National Park, a protected area. Their population should be safe. Unfortunately, this species as one favourite a species hunted by local people for food in Ogan Komering Ilir district coastal zone. No protected area in this regency.

  3. Preliminary proposal

    Based on available information, our preliminary proposal for the 2025 Red List would be to adopt the proposed classifications outlined in the initial forum discussion.

    Comments regarding hunting in South Sumatra will be incorporated into the population trend text.

    There is now a period for further comments until the final deadline on 10 November 2024, after which the recommended categorisations will be put forward to IUCN.

    The final Red List categories will be published on the BirdLife and IUCN websites in 2025, following further checking of information relevant to the assessments by both BirdLife and IUCN.

  5. Recommended categorisation to be put forward to IUCN

    The final categorisation for this species has not changed. Sunda Teal is recommended to be listed as Least Concern.
