I do not have specific population data but there is evidence of some illegal trade in wild caught individuals both domestically and internationally with the main consumer market being in Indonesia.
Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to this discussion. We greatly appreciate the time and effort invested in commenting. The window for consultation is now temporarily closed and we are unable to accept any more comments until 6 February 2023. We will now analyse and interpret the new information, and we will post a preliminary decision on this species’ Red List status on this page on 6 February 2023, when discussions will re-open.
We thank commentors for their contribution; domestic and international trade has now been added as a (likely low impact) threat. Based on available information, our preliminary proposal for the 2023 Red List would be to adopt the proposed classifications outlined in the initial forum discussion.
There is now a period for further comments until the final deadline on 12 February 2023, after which the recommended categorisations will be put forward to IUCN.
The final 2023 Red List categories will be published on the BirdLife and IUCN websites in December 2023, following further checking of information relevant to the assessments by both BirdLife and IUCN.

“based on my data of the Germain’s Peacock Pherasant which has been collected until 2014 and published in “Vy NT, Ngoprasert D, Browne S & Savini T (2017) Status and range decline of two galliformes species in Southeast Asia. Bird Conserv. Int, 27(4): 1-16.”, the EOO of the species is 53,177.130 km2; the AOO is 76.500 km2. As the home range of this species with a radius is not more than 500 n so the AOO of this analysis based on user defined cell width (0.5 km). As a result, this species’s conservation status will be EN.”
Recommended categorisation to be put forward to IUCN
The final categorisation for this species has not changed. The values of EOO and AOO from Vy et al. (2017), of 53,000 km2 and 76,500 km2 were considered as part of the assessment. Since these both exceed the thresholds for B1 and B2 (the only Criteria that use their numeric value), under Criterion B the species qualifies for only Least Concern. The final decision therefore is unchanged, and Germain’s Peacock-pheasant is recommended to be listed as Vulnerable under Criteria A2cd+4cd; C2a(i).
