Most of the distribution is in Brazil and the species is considered LC in the Brazilian National Assessment, so the proposed change would be consistent with that. National status in Argentina was referred to as VU by Bodrati & Cockle (2006), but I can’t find a more recent list so don’t know if that status has changed. Argentina is at the margin of the species’ range.
